About the Author

Clemantine Wamariya was born in Rwanda in 1988. She was six years old when the Rwandan genocide began in 1994. Wamariya and her family were forced to flee their home and spent the next four years living in refugee camps in Tanzania and Kenya. In 1998, Wamariya and her family were granted asylum in the United States. Wamariya is now a graduate of Yale University and works as a human rights activist.
