John Frederick Kensett (March 22, 1816 – December 14, 1872) was an American landscape painter of the Hudson River School. He is best known for his paintings of the Hudson River Valley and the Catskill Mountains.

Kensett was born in Cheshire, Connecticut, and studied art in New York City with Asher B. Durand. In 1840, he traveled to Europe, where he was influenced by the work of the Barbizon School. He returned to the United States in 1847 and settled in New York City. Kensett became a member of the National Academy of Design in 1849 and was elected an associate of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1860. He was a founding member of the American Society of Painters in Water Colors in 1866.

Kensett's paintings are characterized by their tranquil and serene atmosphere. He often depicted scenes of nature in the early morning or evening light. His paintings are also known for their rich colors and细腻的笔触. Kensett's work is represented in many major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
